Times

The workshop will run from 10:00 to 18:00 on Tuesday 17th, 10:00 to 17:30 on Wednesday 18th, and 10:00 to 13:00 on Thursday 19th December.

Registration Deadline

The deadline for online registration is Friday 29th November.

Fees

There will not be any registration fee for the workshop.

Financial Support for Research Students

Limited financial support to attend the workshop is available for UK-based research students who do not have other means of support.  To apply for this, please email Roger Behrend behrendr@cardiff.ac.uk providing details of the degree for which you are studying, the name of your supervisor, and an estimate of the amount of funding required.  The deadline for such an application is Friday 8th November.

Financial Support for Participants with Childcare Responsibilities

Financial support to attend the workshop is available for UK-based parents with childcare responsibilities through the London Mathematical Society’s Childcare Supplementary Grant Scheme.

Venue

The talks will take place in Room M/0.40 on the Ground Floor of the School of Mathematics, Cardiff University—building 42 in square E3 of the map.  The School of Mathematics is about a 20-minute walk from Cardiff Central train station (square D1 on map) or a 2-minute walk from Cathays train station (square D4 on map).

Workshop Dinner

A workshop dinner will be held at 19:00 on Wednesday 18th December at the Maldron Hotel.  The cost for this will be £25.  A vegetarian option will be available.

Travel

The closest major airports to Cardiff are Cardiff Airport (about 40 minutes away), Bristol Airport (about 1 hour, 40 minutes away) and Heathrow Airport (about 3 hours away).  There are regular direct flights between Cardiff and Amsterdam on KLM, Dublin on Aer Lingus, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Paris CDG on Flybe, and Newcastle on Eastern Airways.  The flights between Cardiff and Paris CDG can also be booked through Air France.

There is a bus service between Cardiff Airport and the Cardiff Bus Station (38-minute journey, every 20 minutes, £8 for a return ticket).  The Cardiff Bus Station (building 86 in square D1 of the map) is immediately north of Cardiff Central train station.

There is also a bus service between Bristol Airport and the Cardiff Bus Station on Greyhound, and a bus service between Heathrow Airport and the Cardiff Bus Station on National Express.  Alternatively, travelling between Heathrow Airport and Cardiff can be done using a RailAir bus between Heathrow and Reading, or a Heathrow Express train between Heathrow and London Paddington, together with a First Great Western train between Reading or London Paddington and Cardiff.

Accommodation

Participants are expected to book accommodation themselves at a hotel or bed and breakfast in Cardiff.

Any hotel in the Cardiff city centre (squares D1, D2, E1 & E2 on map) would be within about a 20-minute walk from the workshop venue.  A recommended option is the Maldron Hotel, which offers discounts for multi-night stays, and will be the venue for the workshop dinner.  The location of the Maldron hotel is immediately to the east of Cardiff Central train station, in the triangular area between Penarth Road, St Mary Street and the railway line (square D1 on map).

Other hotel options are the Hilton, Holiday Inn, Ibis, Park Plaza, Premier Inn, Marriott, Mercure, Park Inn, Radisson Blu, Thistle, Travelodge (Queen Street) or Travelodge (St Mary Street).

Most of the bed and breakfasts in Cardiff are on Cathedral Road (square B3 on map) or Newport Road (square F3 on map), and are within about a 25-minute walk from the workshop venue.  Some recommended options are Lincoln House, Preste Garden, Tane’s Hotel and The Town House.
